Our Endocrinology services for children

  • Diabetes care. Our medical team specializes in the care of children with diabetes and prediabetes. This includes ensuring prompt diagnosis and treatment, as well as connecting patients with primary care providers, nutritionists, behavioral health consultants, ophthalmologists, nephrologists, or other providers they may need to manage their condition. We work closely with newly diagnosed patients and families to help them navigate their diagnosis and understand how to manage technologies such as insulin pumps and continuous glucose monitors.

Our physicians are available 24x7 to address urgent questions from parents or school nurses about diabetes management. Our robust diabetes program also includes nurses who can assist families with lifestyle concerns, school accommodations, and more.

  • Newborn screening. As the only designated New York State Newborn Screening Referral Center in the Hudson Valley, we manage and coordinate the care of infants with abnormal newborn thyroid and adrenal testing. When a newborn is diagnosed with a thyroid or adrenal condition at birth, our team immediately sets to work ensuring they and their family receive the care and support they need.

  • Early puberty (precocious puberty) care. Our team is experienced at diagnosing and treating early puberty and is sensitive about monitoring each child’s development and helping families navigate this condition. We also manage conditions and concerns related to delayed puberty.

  • Growth and pituitary condition management. BCHP physicians have vast experience diagnosing and managing growth disorders, including growth hormone deficiency and other pituitary hormone deficiencies. A range of provocative hormone testing is available at our center to help determine if a child’s pituitary and adrenal glands are working properly.

  • Thyroid health. Our medical team cares for the full range of thyroid disorders, including congenital hypothyroidism, acquired hypothyroidism, as well as autoimmune thyroid diseases. Through our partnership with Boston Children’s Hospital, we also coordinate care for children with thyroid nodules and thyroid cancer.
