Leonard Newman, MD, President of Boston Children’s Health Physicians
“The goal of the Department of Pediatrics is still the same: to be a resource for children in the seven counties and beyond.” – Leonard J. Newman, MD
Chairman, Dept. of Pediatrics, New York Medical College
Professor of Pediatrics, New York Medical College
President, Children’s & Women’s Physicians of Westchester, LLP
The department of pediatrics at New York Medical College is one of the first in the country to train pediatricians, dating back to the 1860’s in New York City.
As such, it was the first to incorporate bedside teaching rounds in the training of physicians. This fine tradition continues at Metropolitan Hospital, located on the upper east side of Manhattan.
The Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital now serves as the primary site where the educational mission, clinical and basic research, as well as primary and subspecialty care are afforded the sickest children. Tertiary and quaternary services include the NICU, PICU, transplant services, Metabollic Center, Cystic Fibrosis Center, Oncology Center, surgical and all subspecialty services.
This faculty of outstanding physicians has significant research funding from the NIH, as well as major foundations.
It is my hope that those who visit our campus with the Children’s Hospital, or view our web site, realize the commitment of our faculty to our mission of quality healthcare for children.
